Update: SEGA has announced Daytona 3 Championship USA, a new arcade game based on the original game engine.

The game will feature three new tracks, including a version of the newly renovated Daytona International Speedway. The original game’s three classic courses have also been remastered for the new game.

The game’s arcade cabinet will feature a 47” LED monitor and can be linked for up to eight players. New for Daytona 3 is a spectator video billboard marquee with 27” display which offers an overview of the race action.

“This is a game changer. This is a premium game that delivers on quality, player experience and operator features that sets a very high bar for arcade video racing games. Importantly we have based it on the original game engine that gave us the amazing ‘AI’ and ‘catch up’ feeling that we all grew to love” commented Patrick Michael, Head of Local R&D.

Original report: Yesterday we saw that Cruis’n was making a comeback – though we weren’t too pleased with what we saw.

Now SEGA Amusements has announced that Daytona USA is returning with a new arcade game.

“#DaytonaIsBack… Play it on Sega Booth 1606 @IAAPAHQ@OCCC 2 weeks today! #IAE16 #Daytona #ArcadeOnly” reads a Tweet from SEGA Amusements. The Tweet was accompanied by this GIF:

The last Daytona title to appear on consoles was the HD remake of Daytona USA, which launched in 2011 for PS3 and Xbox 360. Sadly is seems the new arcade game won’t be coming to consoles.

The IAAPA Attractions Expo 2016 runs November 15-18 at the Orange County Convention Center.
