Mintrocket’s debut title on deep sea exploration and running a sushi restaurant sold an incredible 3 million copies. It’s an incredible achievement alongside its ‘Overwhelmingly Positive’ rating on Steam.

We praised its hilarious script and quirky cast back in our Dave The Diver preview. Its relaxing vibe while diving could be disrupted by a shark at a moment’s notice. The sushi restaurant mini-game is complete with recipes to master and interior decor to renovate. After being released on PC and then Nintendo Switch, it grew in popularity and even had a crossover event with DREDGE, another popular title from 2023.

Dave the Diver hits 3 million copies sold

In an official post on X (formerly Twitter), the developers celebrated the major milestone of 3 million copies sold of Dave The Diver. In a year of incredible titles (our GOTY 2023 list agrees), the game carved a niche for itself with its unconventional script and intriguing mechanics.

The news came right after Steam announced that Dave the Diver won the Sit Back and Relax award. Its description notes that ‘This game is the antidote to a busy day. It’s smooth, it’s relaxing, and it lets your worries melt away. This game is your moment of zen.’

It’s a massive success for developer Mintrocket and publisher Nexon. Its blend of fun ideas remains an engrossing experience. The game loop of spearfishing in an ocean and then using this fish for your sushi restaurant is pretty compelling. You’ll have to be mindful of resources and ingredients that help you with both tasks.

It’s on sale right now on Steam so consider adding it to your 2024 backlog. And if you’re looking ahead to some new games, we’ve got a list of upcoming games in 2024.
