Darkest Dungeon, the Gothic-flavoured actioner from developer Red Hook Studios, is getting a physical release on Switch for all you brick-and-mortar retail fans out there. The disc version of the award-winning title will hit stores in March under the moniker Darkest Dungeon: Ancestral Edition.

In addition to featuring full game, Ancestral Edition also throws in two expansions to tuck into: The Crimson Court and The Shieldbreaker. Those of you interested in scooping up the title in stores can expect to fork out £34.99 for the privildge.

‘Many fans have been clamouring for a physical edition of the game, and Merge Games was the right partner to help us get this done! We’re thrilled for people to have the option to buy a retail box…and we’re going to be keeping a few copies in our personal libraries, too!’ commented Red Hook Studios’ Tyler Sigman.

Darkest Dungeon was released on Switch via the eShop on January 18, and previously hit PS4, PS Vita, and PC back in 2016. The game is your classic dungeon crawler: Pick from a number of ragtag adventurers, delve into a spooky crypt below a gothic castle, and slice your way through legions of unspeakable monstrosities while upgrading your hero.

It’s a simple concept, but Red Hook has added its own wrinkles to a classic formula by way of managing your character’s stress level. Spend too much time scrapping with foes or exploring the dungeon without snacking on something for example, and you could potentially help or hinder your hero’s abilities depending on your affliction.

Darkest Dungeon has to date sold over two million copies worldwide.
