Those of you hoping to take Dark Souls Remastered online with PS4 and screw with someone’s game on Xbox One will be disappointed to learn that the spruced up dungeon crawler will not support cross-play. Bandai Namco Games confirmed the news to IGN, stating succinctly that the game ‘will not have cross-platform play.’

Rumours have been gathering pace that Dark Souls Remastered would support the feature since the game’s announcement last week. While multiplayer is still included in the revamp of 2011’s action-RPG — which lets you help or hinder another player’s game — it’s limited to interacting with gamers on the same format.

No reason was given for the lack of cross-platform play, although Sony has been pretty obstinate in regards to its stance on the feature so we didn’t expect them to change their minds here. Nintendo and Microsoft however have been getting pretty chummy as of late, with users enjoying cross-play on the likes of Minecraft and Rocket League with PC folk.

Dark Souls Remastered will be inviting you to die all over again on PS4, PC, Xbox One, and Switch on May 25. While it won’t feature HDR Lighting on PS4 Pro, the game will support a number of enhancements including 4K resolution and improved frame rate and resolution. The Switch version meanwhile will run at 1080p/30fps when in TV Mode.
