Cyberpunk 2077 received new details on its companions, explorable areas, its loot system, and robot ally Flathead, revealed by lead quest designer Pawel Sasko in a podcast with LastKnownMeal on YouTube.

Sasko said that Night City will have plenty for players to explore, including underground zones. Cryptically, he added that the protagonist, V, will be able to swim. I’d always thought that water plus electrics equalled much upset, but perhaps in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe they’ve solved water type weakness to sparks.

The enemies lurking in the city locales will possess different abilities based on their augmentations, leading me to think that we’ll get a database of enemy classes with their strengths and weaknesses. Like The Witcher 3’s Glossary, but with more beeps and boops. V’s companions will have their own characteristic abilities too, but they won’t be taking orders. Sasko said that, excluding certain circumstances, there will be no way for players to give commands to the companion.

Flathead is a stolen military-grade spiderbot that will toe the line, however. It uses its own artificial intelligence, but players can use it for combat takedowns, hacking technology, destroying items, and gathering loot. Loot is not randomised though, because some items will only be found in certain areas of Night City.

Cyberpunk 2077 will launch for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on April 2020.
