Grand Theft Auto V will be released this October, according to the online CV of Rockstar North character animator Alex O’Dwyer.
The CV has since been removed, but an October date would put the newest GTA game right in the holiday season mix with all manner of other heavy hitters.
Whilst it wouldn’t be unusual for a GTA game to arrive in the holiday season – GTA 4 didn’t but others have – it’s the competition from Take-Two’s own BioShock Infinite which casts a serious doubt over the date.
BioShock Infinite is lined-up for October 19, so Take-Two would be mad to launch a juggernaut such as GTA 5 at the same time. A later October release might not be too damaging for Infinite, but the game then sees itself going up against Assassin’s Creed III. In a straight up battle GTA would likely come out the winner, but it would surely come with some cost to sales.
