Crysis 3 will happen providing the forthcoming second game sells well, Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli has told CVG.
“We definitely want to make Crysis 3,” said Yerli. “I’m not making a formal announcement. We’d like to make Crysis 3 but the second game needs to be successful first. I will mention that there is a plan for how the fiction of Crysis should roll out, but again, it depends on the success of Crysis 2.”
So what would define success for Crysis 2? For Crytek the bar has been set by Call of Duty: Black Ops.
“If it doesn’t meet our goals for whatever reason and doesn’t even break even then there may not be a Crysis 3, but if it sells anywhere near what Black Ops has, there may be more from Crysis.”
Crysis 2 is due fore release on March 25 for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. A multiplayer demo is available for Xbox 360 owners now.
We’re hoping Yerli’s comments about Crysis needing to sell nearly as well as Black Ops were made slightly tongue-in-cheek, as no one expects the impressive looking FPS to shift anywhere near as many copies as Activision’s mega hit.
