Certain Affinity has announced Crimson Alliance, a co-op action RPG due for release on Xbox LIVE Arcade this summer. The game is said to mix cooperative action combat with RPG character development as players battle the sinister Cult of the Soul Siren.

Players will be able to party with up to three friends and choose from three classes, including the Assassin, Wizard and Mercenary. Each class has five special abilities that can be upgraded by collecting treasure and finding hidden Soul Anchors that harbour the spirits of dead heroes.

Cooperative play will be offered via a single console or over Xbox LIVE, allowing players to create chain attacks that combine various abilities.

“One of the reasons I started Certain Affinity was because I wanted to make a game like this – an action RPG with clever AI, fantastic physics and deep emergent gameplay that can be enjoyed with friends in the living room or halfway across the globe,” said Max Hoberman, president, Certain Affinity. “Crimson Alliance is that game, finally!”

Crimson Alliance features a world of labyrinthine crypts, ruined cities, deadly traps and hidden treasures, and is populated by mini-bosses and the minions under their control.

The game will be published by Microsoft this summer and will be shown at E3 next week.

Certain Affinity has previously worked on Map Packs for Halo Reach and Call of Duty: Black Ops, so is no stranger to high profile titles. This seems to be somewhat of a departure from the studio’s normal games, however, with Crimson Alliance definitely having more than a tinge of Diablo about it.
