Vivendi Universal Games has announced Crash Tag Team Racing for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube and Nintendo DS. Radical Entertainment, the team behind hit games such as The Simpsons: Hit & Run, are handling the home console versions, while Sensory Sweep will be developing the Nintendo DS version.

Crash Tag Team Racing will once again put Crash and friends in crazy vehicles and brings all new “clashing” technology to racing action. Players will be able to combine their car with an opponent’s during a race and create a super-car; when combined you’ll have the choice of driving the new vehicle or taking over the turret position to fire on your competitors. However, you won’t be constrained to your vehicles; you’ll be able to jump out of your car and wander around the environments, collecting upgrades and unlocking bonus tracks.

Multiplayer gaming has been well catered for with up to eight players being able to race head to head via split-screen and system link on all consoles, while the Nintendo DS version supports up to four players via WiFi.

“We’re thrilled to give Crash Bandicootî fans another hilarious adventure with the irrepressible marsupial,” said Ian Wilkinson, President, Radical Entertainment. “The development team showed off its ability to create a break-out vehicle-based game with The Simpsons: Hit & Run and is set to deliver another innovative and wildly fun title in Crash Tag Team Racing.”

With a script penned by Jordan Reicheck – known for his work on Ren & Stimpy – the game should feature a solid amount of humour to compliment the intense action racing. Crash Tag Team Racing is scheduled for release in autumn 2005.
