Stardew Valley creator Eric ‘ConcernedApe’ Barone has revealed that he will likely create a Stardew Valley 2 at some point in the future. However, the game developer admits that he would much rather create more free updates for the original game as it’s not only easier, but he doesn’t “care about money”.

Stardew Valley 2 is certainly on the cards

Talking on Bobby Lee’s Tiger Belly podcast, Barone explained that he will probably create more Stardew Valley in the future. With the developer now taking a proper break from the farming game to focus entirely on his next game Haunted Chocolatier, he admits that he will return to Stardew at some point.

Speaking on the podcast, Barone said that he “might eventually make a Stardew Valley 2” at some point in the future. After years of Haunted Chocolatier support, there will probably be a return to the farming game, but Barone explains he’ll probably work on more free updates for the original.

“It’s just so much easier to just add more stuff to Stardew Valley than to make a whole new game from scratch,” the game developer explained. “The major systems are already all done. That’s the stuff that’s not fun to do. When I make an update, it’s like, you know – ‘oh, throw in this, throw in that. Let’s add green rain.'”

Considering how much money the original Stardew game generated for the developer, a Stardew Valley 2 would undoubtedly be another massive paycheck. However, Barone explains that he simply doesn’t care about making money anymore.

“I just don’t care,” the developer said when asked about why Stardew updates will always be free. “I just don’t care about money that much, to be honest.”

As for why Barone is leaving the farming game behind for a while to create Haunted Chocolatier, the developer explained that it’s simply because he doesn’t “want to be just the Stardew Valley guy”. While the new game doesn’t yet have a solid release date, everyone is excited to play another game from ConcernedApe.
