Concept art for Sledgehammer Games’ cancelled 2009 Call of Duty game has been posted online.

The images come from artist Eddie Del Rio (via IGN) and portray a darker tone for the series.

Back in May Sledgehammer co-found Glen Schofield spoke about the canned project to Game Informer.

“We had spent six or eight months on it, and were really getting into the story,” he said. “We had some really cool mechanics. We had a big moment that I would love to get into a game someday, but it’s not something we could do in first-person.”

Sledgehammer Games is currently working on Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, which is due on November 4 on PS3, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC.
