Sandfall Interactive’s debut release Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has been a huge success for the newly-formed AA studio. Launched to critical acclaim and huge sales, alongside its Xbox Game Pass release, the game is a major contender for Game of the Year.

However, the title’s launch period success is far from over. After the game’s blockbuster release week, sales are still climbing for Sandfall’s stylish turn-based game, and they’re expected to hit a major milestone.

Clair Obscur could sell 10 million units

Less than two weeks after the release of the game, Sandfal confirmed that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has already sold two million copies across all platforms. Announced on social media, the developers thanked players for giving the team’s first game a chance.

“We’ve watched in awe as so many of you began your journey,” the developer said. “Feeling every step, every emotion, every revelation alongside you. To those just joining us: welcome. Tomorrow comes.”

Following the developer’s tweet, Baldur’s Gate 3 publishing director Michael Douse took to Twitter. The Larian developer explained that the new game is expected to sell six million copies minimum following its launch success, but predicts the game will sell ten million in total.

“I hope now word of mouth is in control it can reach its potential. and I say that in support of the developers and their incredible achievement,” the games publisher explained. “It has the potential to reach a conservative 6, at least. Could top 8-10.”

As a comparison for comparison’s sake, Baldur’s Gate 3 managed to sell around 15 million units in its first year on sale which, in turn, has allowed the studio to massive expand with a new storytelling department. The studio is also now working on two games after leaving their beloved RPG behind.

The release of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is incredibly exciting as a return to quality AA experiences and moderately priced games in an industry where games such as GTA 6 are expected to cost upwards of $80 on launch.
