Reports claim that a Chinese man, Zhu Caoyuan, has been killed by Shanghai gamer Qiu Chengwei when Qiu discovered that Zhu had sold a sword which had only been loaned to him. When Zhu Caoyuan sold the “dragon sabre” for 7,200 Yuan (£460) Qiu Chengwei reported the incident to the police as theft, but they ignored the accusation as the sword wasn’t real property.

This news comes a few weeks after rival MMORPG makers Blizzard banned a number of players from World of Warcraft due to gold farming: The process of mining gold in the game and selling it for real world money. With online games becoming more and more addictive there are always going to be players that take it very seriously. Unfortunately for Mr Caoyuan, Mr Chengwei took his dragon sabre a little too seriously.
