DUST 514 offers what EVE Online does not, according to its developer CCP.

While EVE has a reputation for often being difficult for new users to penetrate, CCP confirms DUST will offer a more user-friendly experience.

“We see Dust as a way to allow people to participate in this universe by offering them a more intuitive, familiar, speedier, quicker, shorter time-commitment type of experience,” CEO Hilmar Petursson told Rock, Paper, Shotgun.

“EVE is a very particular type of experience, made for people who want to commit a lot of energy to have a game experience like that. Over the years we’ve seen a lot of people interested in the EVE universe, the single shard and the political drama, but might not be particularly looking for an experience like the game itself.”

Both MMOs will share the same shard, with each world connected by a space elevator, Petursson explains. However, while players will be able to chat with one another across both titles, for now the games will not be directly interconnected.

DUST 514 is the PS3-centered MMO from CCP, taking place in the EVE Online universe. Despite its place on console, it will have keyboard and mouse control.
