Capcom has announced that a new game in its Bionic Commando franchise is currently in development for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. Inspired by the 1988 NES classic, Bionic Commando will see players taking control of Nathan Spencer, a government operative who represents the ultimate fusion of man and machine.

Nathan Spencer is falsely imprisoned by the very people he served and sentenced to death for crimes he didn’t commit. Three years later, on the day of his execution, an experimental weapon detonates, leaving Ascension City in ruins and wiping out its populace. With intelligence pointing towards terrorists, the FSA has only one option: the reactivation of Nathan Spencer.

Developed by Grin (GRAW and GRAW 2 for PC), Bionic Commander will use the latest generation of hardware to implement a swing mechanic, making it possible for players to traverse the ruins of Ascension City (towering buildings, suspended roadways and monorails, deep canyons and sheer rock faces) via multiple routes using swinging, rappelling, climbing and wall-walking techniques.

Thanks to his bionic arm, Spencer is able to pick up boulders and cars which can be thrown at enemies or get up close and personal and deliver a deadly punch.

Expect to hear much more on Bionic Commando over the coming months.
