Activision Blizzard has dropped some new info on the upcoming free-to-play sequel, Call of Duty Warzone 2.0.

The extra info came alongside last night’s first reveal of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 gameplay. First off, the new Warzone 2.0 will release in a window roughly “soon after” the launch of MW2 and will be an “extension” of that game’s universe. Activision Blizzard further clarified that it’ll be an entirely separate game from the existing Call of Duty: Warzone.

However, this means that Warzone 2.0 will include brand new player progression and inventories. Ergo, all players will be starting afresh on the new game. It’s not all bad news for your hard-earned progress, however. Activision has confirmed the existing Call of Duty: Warzone will “continue as a separate experience” and will share more details soon.

As for the new Warzone 2.0, development is being led by Infinity Ward with Raven Software. Of course, IW are also leading MW2 development, so it’ll share the same engine and all its fancy bells and whistles. It’ll also include the latest version of the Ricochet Anti-Cheat system baked into both games from day one.

The team promise more information on Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 closer to release, and have teased a new sandbox mode. Of course, there’ll be a new map too which will also be shown closer to launch – (perhaps as soon as tonight?). We’ll see if there’s been many changes since that leak a couple of weeks ago.

Call of Duty Warzone 2.0 arrives later this year on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 & PC.
