Call of Duty fans are pumped that rapper Snoop Dogg is set to return to Call of Duty in Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone Season 5 while noting that it’s not the first dalliance Snoop’s had with the series.
Following the announcement that Snoop will be joining Nicki Minaj and 21 Savage in the new season, members of the Modern Warfare 2 subreddit have now pointed out that canonically, Snoop is over 100 years old given he appeared in the WW2-set Call of Duty Vanguard as a DLC launched in 2022. Those newer to the series might be impressed to learn however that this isn’t actually the rapper’s second or even third time in the game.
Surprisingly enough the D-O-Double G actually appears in more Call of Duty games than World at War’s very own Viktor Reznov. Playing a pivotal role in the World at War and Black Ops series storyline, the Gary Oldman voiced character has only appeared in six Call of Duty games as opposed to Snoop Dogg’s seven.
Snoop Dog’s original appearance in Call of Duty wasn’t actually as a playable character. Instead, it was as a multiplayer voice pack announcer for the last Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 era Call of Duty, Call of Duty: Ghosts. Since then, Snoop has appeared in six other Call of Duty games including Call of Duty: Vanguard, the original Call of Duty: Warzone, Call of Duty: Mobile, Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile and now, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.0.
Many Call of Duty fans have had fun been pointing out how far removed some of these games are timeline-wise when considering Snoop’s appearances and making him out to be CoD’s very own multi-verse crossing superhero as Iosiro points out “The funniest thing about Snoop Dogg in Vanguard is that canonically, he’s actually just Snoop Dogg in COD. His description says he just casually enters Call of Duty every now and then. This implies he can just enter any universe at will.”
In fact, some are likening him to another fan-favourite Call of Duty character who transcends timelines to appear in most entries of the long-running series. As JoeyAKangaroo points out “Captain Price 🤝 Snoop Dogg. Being time traveling WW2 veterans” and as Snivinerior adds “Bro served in the trenches of d-day, became a mercenary in the early 2020s then issued orders to both federation and ghost troops in 2027.”
With the Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone Season 5 start date set to kick off on August 2, 2023, be sure to keep up to date with all the Call of Duty news including; Modern Warfare 2 Season 5 Reloaded will reportedly add Lara Croft operator bundle and Modern Warfare 2 Season 5 launch trailer reveals return of beloved CoD 4 map.
