Since the reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2’s specs, launch games and features like GameChat, Nintendo has been under fire for the price of its first-party titles. Specifically, the company has been flamed for the prices of Nintendo Switch 2 Editions of Switch 1 games such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.
Adding fuel to the fire, Nintendo has now confirmed that the new Breath of the Wild Switch 2 Edition release is not a complete package. While the base game game is included with fancier visuals and a much improved framerate, the game’s host of DLC is not included.
Breath of the Wild Switch 2 Edition doesn’t give you DLC
Nintendo’s new Switch 2 enhanced version of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild does include new features. Alongside the new visuals, players can unlock achievements and use interesting features like audio map navigation via the Zelda Notes section of the Nintendo Switch Online app.
For players who already own the game on the original Nintendo Switch, the new version of the game can be nabbed via an Upgrade Pack for just $10 or as part of the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pass service.
However, gamers who purchase the brand-new The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Switch 2 Edition of the game for a full $10—which is more expensive than the game’s initial Switch 1 launch price—will also have to purchase the game’s Expansion Pass separately.
Speaking to IGN, Nintendo revealed: “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition does not include The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Expansion Pass DLC. That DLC is available as a separate purchase.”
The $20 Expansion Pass comes with two DLC Packs: The Master Trials and The Champions’ Ballad. Adding features like Master Mode, extra armour and a cool Master Cycle, the DLC offers a tonne of value and, let’s be honest, it should be included in the new version of the game.
Nintendo first-party games pretty much never drop in value, but this new re-release, the DLC should be part of the new package. After all, every other company does this. Hell, even Cyberpunk 2077’s Switch 2 port includes its expansion, a game-sized DLC.
