Gearbox Software, the studio behind Borderlands and Battleborn, has revealed a new game, currently codenamed Project 1v1. According to the website, Project 1v1, ‘’combines the action of fast-paced 1v1 first-person combat with the metagame strategy of a collectible card game’ and there will be a Closed Technical Test later this summer.

Players who’re interested in taking part can sign up to the beta via Gearbox’s Shift website. The test is asking for a limited number of players, in order to test the game’s online infrastructure and for said players to send feedback. Gearbox notes that the ‘test will be held on North American servers, so international players may experience decreased performance’.

The closed technical test will feature three modes, Ranked, Challenge and Arena, all of which are pretty self-explanatory. We also know that players can earn crates and new cards by defeating opponents in the game’s ranked mode. Other than that, there isn’t much else to go on at the moment, currently the website’s FAQ doesn’t link anywhere and there are no other details on what formats the game may come to beyond PC.

The strategy card game market is becoming increasingly crowded, with Valve announcing it’s doing one as well.
