Valve Software has announced a new game and sadly it’s not the announcement of Half Life 3 that you may have been hoping for. Revealed in a pretty vague trailer, Artifact: The Dota Card Game is a collectible card game spin-off for the quite popular Dota 2. It will be released sometime in 2018, but being Valve release dates mean nothing.
Artifact is based on Dota 2 and involves a selection of characters from Valve’s stupidly successful game. Announced just before the final match on the second day of The Invitational (Valve’s annual Dota 2 esports tournament), broadcaster Sean ‘Day9’ Plott said of Artifact’s tease, ‘It’s not Half-Life 3,’ crushing the hopes of those who still believe a new Half-Life may yet come out. Plott went on to describe the game, hinting that Artifact would be a similar game to Blizzard’s Hearthstone but with a Dota-themed three-lane system and other Dota elements.
The Artifact project is being led by ex-Double Fine developer Brad Muir, who previously worked on the likes of Psychonauts, Iron Brigade and Massive Chalice.Â
I’ve been working on @PlayArtifact at Valve for a while now! Can’t wait for you guys to play it! :D!
