Gearbox head honcho Randy Pitchford has overnight tweeted to confirm that upcoming looter shooter Borderlands 3 won't allow you to loot and shoot with your buddies on other platforms at launch, but it is something actively being worked on for the future.

The comments came due to speculation over a reveal set to take place this evening for the game, as Borderlands 3's social accounts teased a 'Celebration of Togetherness' announcement for later this afternoon. However, Pitchford made it clear that whatever the reveal is, it sadly wouldn't be for cross platform play, saying 'There will not be any cross-play functionality in Borderlands 3 at launch as we work closely with our partners to create a positive cross-play experience as soon as practicable. We are committed to cross-play on as many platforms as possible.'

It's a feature that has been bandied around a few times in the past, with publisher 2K Games confirming to GameSpot earlier this year after a listing for 'cross play support' was spotted on the game's Microsoft store listing that it was indeed a feature being 'looked at' but wasn't in just yet, and it seems the functionality won't quite make it in time for launch, but hopefully it won't be too long down the line.

Borderlands 3 is set to launch on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC via the Epic Games Store on September 13, and will include a new fancy ping system among other improved accessiblity features.
