The new Vessel of Hatred content coming to Diablo 4 has caused a rift to appear within the game’s dedicated community. With a new focus on multiplayer, fans have criticised developer Blizzard for being “out of touch” with what fans want.

Despite coming alongside a new Party Finder feature, the new endgame content has been slammed for ruining the game’s solo experience

Are Diablo 4 devs “out of touch”?

Following new comments on the new endgame content at Gamescom, players on the Diablo subreddit continued to fight against the new multiplayer focus. With Blizzard claiming the new content needs “verbal communication” to effectively clear, the game’s solo crowd feels left behind.

“They are turning this into a bootleg Lost Ark,” one fan said. “These devs are completely out of touch.”

“This whole description of ‘needing to communicate with your group to get through it’ is like the opposite of anything I want from playing an ARPG,” said another fan. “I am hoping it will be way less popular than they hope and they’ll change something. I abhor this universal push into making everything forced multiplayer.”

Mechanics locked behind multiplayer

Alongside the new expansion’s endgame content being locked to multiplayer, a lot of Diablo 4’s new items are locked behind that content as well. At the time of writing, a scroll that lets you reset your daily temper attempts are exclusive to the multiplayer dungeons.

However, it’s unknown how much of Vessel of Hatred’s new loot will be available outside of the Dark Citadel multiplayer mode. As an endgame mode, the majority of the game’s top tier loot will likely be found there.

Diablo 4 is available now on PC, PlayStation and Xbox. Vessel of Hatred releases on October 8, 2024. For more Diablo 4 content, check out the game’s new March of the Goblins event.
