Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will not feature the noob favourite Riot Shield at launch, the developer has confirmed. As per the official website, Treyarch has listed a total of 33 weapons that will be available when the game launches… and the ‘beloved’ riot shield is not one of them.

The shield helped coined the term ‘turtle shelling’, as it was stowed it on an operator’s back making them resemble the shelled animal. The main plus point was that it allowed ‘turtlers’ to absorb fire from behind, making it a fantastic choice for those who can’t really play the game… myself included.

Instead of taking massive damage, a different hit marker would appear, along with a clattering noise. This would allow those who ‘turtle-shelled’ valuable extras seconds to take cover. Another perk of the shield was that it allowed you to face foes headon, creep up to them and then either smash them with it, or pull out your main weapon and finish them off.

It’s not known yet as to whether the shield will make an appearance in the future ( I am hoping it does…), but given how much it polarized the community over the last couple of games, many will be glad to see the back of it… not literally.

For those wanting a dose of melee action, the combat knife is unlocked immediately, while those who fancy a bit of a grind will be able to get their hands on a baseball bat at Level 50.

Elsewhere, Black Ops 6 will feature a non-binary operator. Volta Rossi is described as being a ‘street smart’ rogue with a ‘blue-blood pedigree’. They have ties to the Luttazzi family that gives them a “unique insight into Avalon”. Rossi was first spotted by DETONATED on X, who clocked that their bio used the pro-nouns ‘their’ and ‘them’.

Black Ops 6 will be released on October 25, and it’s already making headlines for asking gamers to pay more for better audio. Before jumping in, make sure to check our all the Black Ops 6 promos, featuring plenty of quick and easy ways to get XP and more.
