Two multiplayer modes which were being developed for BioShock Infinite have been scrapped because they didn’t meet the grade, Irrational Games creative director Ken Levine has told Kotaku.

“As I’ve always said we are experimenting with things, and only if they are good enough will we put them in the game,” said Levine.

The first scrapped mode saw players placed inside arcade machines where they would battle against waves of toys in a tower defense type game. The second was called “Spec Ops” and saw up to four players taking on the single-player campaign cooperatively.

It’s not clear if BioShock Infinite will ship with any multiplayer modes.

The game is set to launch on February 26 on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3, complete with input from Rod Fergusson.
