EA has released a ten minute short film entitled Exodus giving us an insight into the backstory of upcoming shooter Battlefield 2042.

The film is available to watch on YouTube and sees the return of Battlefield 4 character Kimble “Irish” Graves. No longer a member of the USMC, he now commands the No-Pat vessel Exodus. Events involving a mysterious briefcase and a shadowy character called Oz transpire, kicking off the major conflict in Battlefield 2042.

Without a traditional campaign mode, BF 2042’s story will be told through the multiplayer game and Specialist characters. Each one, including Irish himself, will tell their own story that all connects to an overarching narrative. On top of that, stories existing outside of the game known as the ‘World of 2042’ will help fill in the blanks.

In-game, Irish is an Engineer class, and will have the Fortification System Speciality. This means he’ll be able to utilise the DCS Deployable Cover in game for himself and allies. He’ll also have an APS-36 Shootdown Sentinel that can shoot down explosive projectiles. Finally, his Veteran trait allows him to spawn with additional body armour, topped up by collecting ammo from fallen foes. We can expect more Specialists to be revealed closer to release.
