EA has announced that the next expansion for Battlefield 1, In the Name of the Tsar, will be released on September 19 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. The DLC will also bring the game’s first female multiplayer character. Premium Pass holders will be able to play the expansion from September 5, and everyone else can join in from September 19.

In the Name of the Tsar will feature six new maps, and some ‘night maps’, such as Summer: Neville Nights and Prise da Tahure. Alongside the new maps there’ll be 11 new weapons, three new vehicles, the horse-riding Hussars and Russian armies. The Russian Scout class features female soldiers from the 1st Women’s Battalion of Death, their inclusion having previously stirred up some idiot noise about historical accuracy and political correctness going mad, and so on. The Supply Drop mode has also been added and requires players to race towards supplies in the midst of battle.

This expansion also brings some new visual additions in the form of HDR10 (High Dynamic Range) support. This will unlock an expanded colour palette and contrast ratio, which makes the already impressive looking game even nicer on the eyes. But you’ll need a console/PC and display that’s capable of displaying HDR to benefit from this visual boost.

‘In the name of the Tsar’ will be released on September 19 on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Premium Pass holders will get access two weeks earlier.
