The sprawling city of Baldur’s Gate has been expertly recreated in Paradox’s building game Cities: Skylines.
Using Larian’s brilliant Baldur’s Gate 3 as a template, one dedicated player faithfully recreated the location with modern architecture. While some fans are busy tinkering with brand-new modding tools, this fan has decided to work magic with an older toy.
Baldur’s Gate: Skylines
Bringing the iconic Dungeons and Dragons location to Cities Skylines was no easy task. The map creator spent hours crafting the locale in a 56km2 space, a canvas over half the size of Paris.
Shared on Reddit, the creator was forced to make a number of changes due to Cities: Skylines’ modern building style. Dirt paths and docks are now roads, gorgeous wooden boats are now cruise ships and castles have been replaced with skyscrapers.
In the move to modernity, many of the city’s iconic locations have also been changed. Baldur’s Mouth has been upgraded to a TV station, The House of Grief is now a hospital, and The Temple of Umberlee is now a water park.
Yeah, people are going to die
As expected, the city of Baldur’s Gate is not exactly the best place to live. The city’s high crime rate is replicated in full with only a single police station to take on the rampant criminal activity in the modern Sword Coast.
Furthermore, pollution is a major issue, rivaling London as a smoggy, disgusting city. While the water is currently clean and drinkable, the sewage system dumps the city’s waste under Wyrm’s Crossing, so it won’t be long until everyone is up-chucking everywhere. Just like the Thames.
Nevertheless, the final construction is a stunning sight to behold. From afar, the Redditor’s build truly does look like the iconic Dungeons and Dragons city. For a moment, you’ll even forget that every corner hides a murderer and every sip of water brings you closer to death.
