The Dark Urge, or “Durge” playthrough of Baldur’s Gate 3 lets players become a Bhaalspawn, a character constantly pulled towards blood and hate. Due to the character’s violent nature, many players are uncomfortable playing as the character with some wanting to tone down the violence, while others want to up the ante.

As with most things in Baldur’s Gate 3, the phrase “there’s a mod for that” can pretty much always be applied. Just like the arrival of actual working Pokeballs or the return of cut content, talented modders are having their own take on Larian’s brilliant RPG.

Less Dark Dark Urge

One new Baldur’s Gate 3 mod aims to make the Dark Urge playthrough less distressing for players. Dubbed “Less insane Dark Urge voice lines”, the mod aims to make the bloodlusting RPG character a tad less bloodthirsty during normal gameplay.

Created by modder Aqa the mod aims to replace “most of the overly insane voice lines added in patch 7” along with some previous Dark Urge lines that were deemed too much. The mod also removes some of the more extreme Tav lines but should be “good enough” for players.

Other mods have also been released to tone down the Dark Urge playthrough, making it easier to resist urges or cut out some scenarios altogether. For example, some companions destined to die via Dark Urge playthroughs can be saved via mods.

However, for every mod that attempts to calm down the violence, five more release to bring back the gore.

Baldur’s Gate 3 fans crave violence

Since launch, countless mods have been released to make Dark Urge playthroughs more violence. For example, one mod released to bring the urges of the Bhaalspawn to combat, making the playthrough even more frenzied, and countless others make the urges harder to fight.

The simply titled “Better Dark Urge” mod makes the urge even more uncontrollable, making it so you must roll to stop yourself from lashing out against everyone. Another mod even makes it so that cannibalism is another urge you have to contend with. At least you’re never hungry?

The mods surrounding the Dark Urge class in Baldur’s Gate 3 is a sign of the game’s limitless possibilities. Even without mods, there’s so much to do and choose from, but with mods, its a whole other ball game, and it’s fantastic to see so much depth on offer.
