Larian’s mod tools for Baldur’s Gate 3 have already been cracked by players, allowing for the creation of entire homebrew campaigns within the RPG. Just two days after the release of the new level editor, talented modders have managed to crack the tools open.
Baldur’s Gate 3 custom campaigns are possible
When Larian released the new mod tools for Baldur’s Gate 3, custom campaigns were not supported due to “technical constraints and platform-specific guidelines,” However, with fans desperate to make their own campaigns within the brilliant RPG mechanics, modders quickly busted the tools wide open.
Talented video game modder Siegre released an unlocked version of the mod tools on Nexus Mods. Dubbed “BG3 Toolkit Unlocked”, the exploited tools unlock all disabled features such as level editing, save editing and more.

This means that fans can now create entire levels with the game’s swathe of high-quality assets, or even with newly created ones. With quest creation, entire homebrew campaigns can be created within BG3 to offer brand-new experiences for players.
With the original Baldur’s Gate games and other D&D titles like Neverwinter Nights being supported for decades by fans, BG3’s new level editor means that endless content could come to the game. If they want, fans could create massive campaigns on the level of Fallout London, but Larian may remove these mods from consoles.
Why did Larian hide these tools?
At the time of writing, it’s unclear why level editing was scrapped from the Baldur’s Gate 3 mod tools. However, due to the game’s licensed nature, and the cross-platform nature of its modding service, Larian may be required to lock down certain aspects of its tools.
In the Patch 7 patch notes announcement, Larian said: “Baldur’s Gate 3, as a Dungeons & Dragons game licensed by our partners, has certain guidelines in place to ensure the integrity of the game’s universe.”
Nevertheless, fans have found a way to crack Baldur’s Gate open to deliver the modding tools fans really want, creating a game that will now live forever.
