The roaring success of Baldur’s Gate 3 has quickly turned the sprawling RPG into one of the most celebrated games of all-time. Though still in its early days, the game’s massive scale and near-limitless amount of content has predictably had fans begging its developers for additional expansions. Now, it seems that the community’s wishes are set to come true as Larian Studios senior product manager Tom Butler has revealed that they “want to do more,” so future DLC is a very real possibility.
Unfortunately, that’s all it is for now: a possibility. In an interview with IGN at Gamescom 2023, Butler said that the team is currently focused on optimizing the game’s PS5 launch as much as possible. “We’ll carry on patching for a while and then we’re all going to take a holiday and then we’ll figure out what we do next,” he claimed. “But at the moment, we genuinely have discussions. We want to do more. We don’t know what yet.” In addition, since the Baldur’s Gate 3 Xbox port was only recently announced, it may not be a while until we actually see a story expansion come to fruition.
Of course, this isn’t exactly a surprise considering the seemingly endless amount of content that Baldur’s Gate 3 offers. Larian Studios poured buckets of blood, sweat, and tears into producing and polishing the game, so any additional content would just be the proverbial cherry on top of the sophisticated sundae that they’ve already provided the gaming community.
With this in mind, it’s currently unclear when fans can expect a Baldur’s Gate 3 DLC if Larian Studios do ever decide to make one. But with the base game already bringing us hours upon hours of hilarious quips, unexpected outcomes, frustratingly difficult battles, and miniature giant space hamsters, it’s safe to say that the community will continue to be entertained by the open-ended RPG even without the announcement of an expansion.
