Baldur’s Gate 3 director Swen Vincke has revealed that the critically acclaimed D&D-inspired RPG will be coming to Xbox systems in 2023 after all. However, there will be a few limitations on the less powerful Series S console as this system will not have split-screen co-op functionality included. Those on Series X, however, will be able to experience the classic split-screen multiplayer experience. Both platforms will include cross-save progression between Steam and Xbox Series.
Vincke announced the news through a Twitter post wherein he revealed that, after meeting with Xbox head Phil Spencer, their team had “found a solution that allows us to bring Baldur’s Gate 3 to Xbox players this year still, something we’ve been working towards for quite some time.” The BG3 director then continued: “All improvements will be there, with split-screen coop on Series X. Series S will not feature split-screen coop, but will also include cross-save progression between Steam and Xbox Series.”
This news should come as a pleasant surprise to fans of the Microsoft gaming console as it had previously been believed that BG3 on Xbox wouldn’t have been possible in the short term. Fortunately, Larian Studios’ time at Gamescom proved fruitful as a productive meeting with Phil Spencer is seemingly all it took for them to figure out how to port the widely beloved open world adventure saga to the Xbox.
It’s currently unclear when it will be released on the Microsoft gaming console as Larian Studios hasn’t provided an exact date just yet. However, it will likely be made available on Xbox towards the end of 2023 as Vincke noted that the solution they’d found will allow them to bring it over “this year.” Now while you wait for it to launch on Xbox, check out our guides on BG3 Nightsong, BG3 Lady Esther, and BG3 Forge in the meantime.
