Want to learn about Lady Esther in Baldur’s Gate 3? This character in the game offers several choices to complete a quest. It involves, you guessed it, a Githyanki Egg. Each choice in this questline has consequences in later Acts of Baldur’s Gate 3. Don’t worry, we’ve covered all those choices and consequences here.

Who is Lady Esther in Baldur’s Gate 3?

Lady Esther is an NPC at the Rosymorn Monastery who tasks you with the Steal a Githyanki Egg quest. You can find her near the Trielta Crags Waypoint, past the Githyanki Creche once you take the Mountain Pass route to the Shadow-cursed Lands. Try clearing as much of the Underdark as you can before this quest. Speak to Lady Esther and accept her request to start the quest.

Here are some of the choices you get while speaking to Lady Esther in BG3:

  • Accept the quest of getting her a Githyank Egg from Creche Yllek. Naturally, Lae’zel isn’t happy about this.
  • If you have an Owlbear Egg from the Baldur’s Gate 3 Owlbear cub lair, you can convince her it’s a Githyanki Egg. Or you can ask her to deceive her superiors, the Society of Brilliance.
  • Trade with her for some uncommon and rare items.
  • Pass a Deception check of 21 to get 250 gold upfront for stealing the Githyanki Egg. You can also clear a Persuasion check of 21 to persuade her into tricking her employees.
  • Refuse and kill her. Lady Esther is a Level 5 enemy that can turn invisible. Players who got their eye changed by Volo won’t have to worry as they can see her. He may have failed to cure the parasite but it’s still a neat perk. Beating her gives you Basic Poison, Scroll of Cloudkill, Scroll of Wall of Stone, Rapier, Breastplate Armor, The Graceful Cloth, and an Open Call for Adventurers on Behalf of the Society letter. You also get a quest letter called An Opportunity from the Society of Brilliance.

The Steal a Githyanki Egg quest has multiple paths to success. While violence is certainly an option, getting the Githyanki Egg from Crech Y’llek and its Githyanki Warriors won’t be easy. You could talk your way to the Creche Hatchery too. This will involve convincing Varsh Ko’kuu to hand over the Githyanki Egg. You can either persuade him or fight him.

Steal a Githyanki Egg quest walkthrough in Baldur’s Gate 3

Stealing a Githyanki Egg from its fierce protectors isn’t simple. Here’s a quest walkthrough for Steal a Githyanki Egg in BG3:

  • Enter the Hatchery in the Githyanki Creche.
  • Try not to enter the water as it causes Otherworldly Miasma. If you’re sneaking through, try doing it with a single character instead of the entire party.
  • Speak with Varsh Ko’Kuu. Pass an Insight check to understand why they’re trying to save this egg. A Persuasion check of 14 gives you the reason. And a Persuasion check of 21 convinces him to hand over the egg. Use a high Charisma character for these skill checks.
  • This route gives you the Varsh Ko’Kuu’s Boots to walk through the acidic water. Be wary of Repulsion Mines near the egg. And remember to position your party members accordingly. Crushing the egg will make Varsh Ko’Kuu and two guards hostile.
  • Alternatively, you can fight your way through this. Varsh Ko’Kuu has high health and his guards can shove you into the acidic miasma. Note that beating these three warriors will not alert the others in the Githyanki Creche. Either way, retrieve the egg and leave.

Should you give Lady Esther the Githyanki Egg in Baldur’s Gate 3?

Here are the dialogue choices you can make while meeting Lady Esther after getting the Githyanki Egg in BG3:

  • Give the Githyanki Egg to Lady Esther and she will reward you with 280 Gold. While this might seem harmless at first, the consequences are made clear in Act 3 of Baldur’s Gate 3. You’ll know when you visit the Society of Brilliance in Baldur’s Gate. It turns out that they raised the child harshly, resulting in them killing their keepers and Lady Esther.
  • You can still try to give Lady Esther an Owlbear Egg instead. This also has repercussions in Baldur’s Gate. An Ownlbear cub would have killed its captors instead, including Lady Esther.
  • You can, instead, choose to kill her. This battle can be tough as she can turn invisible. But if you rescued Volo in the Blighted Village and have Volo’s Ersatz Eye, you will be able to see her. You can still head to the Society of Brilliance and hand the Githyanki Egg over for a reward.
