Update: Since the publication of this story Baldur’s Gate 3 has now officially entered the top ten Steam charts for all-time peak player count. The game currently boasts an all-time peak player count of 712,281 surpassing both Goose Goose Duck and Apex Legends. This currently makes Baldur’s Gate 3 the ninth most successful game on Steam based on all-time peak player count.

Original Story: After only releasing two days ago Baldur’s Gate 3 is already proving to be a huge success for Larian Studios and everything fans of the series have been looking forward to. The game has already broken into the top 20 games on Steam based on all-time peak player counts with Baldur’s Gate 3 sitting at a respectable 11th place.

According to SteamDB Baldur’s Gate 3 had an all-time peak player count of 593,788 after releasing on August 3. This number could still rise even higher as those numbers don’t seem to be dropping too quickly as the current player count still sits comfortably in the region of 570,000 players. This puts Baldur’s Gate 3 just over 30,000 players away from breaking into the top 10 with Apex Legend boasting an impressive 624,273 all-time peak player count.

Other games in the top ten include the likes of PUBG: Battlegrounds, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Lost Ark, Dota 2 and indie hit Goose Goose Duck which saw its all-time peak player count skyrocket to over 700,000 players earlier this year. Many fans will chalk Baldur’s Gate 3’s success down to its in-depth character customization and in-depth RPG mechanics. Some even pleaded with Larian Studios to offer players a 72-hour character creator-only head start with players like VeritasLuxMea saying, “Please let me make characters and then save them in the character creator so that we can actually play the game on launch day instead of spending our first 8 hours of gameplay going [crazy] in the character creator.”

It seems Larian isn’t looking to slow down either as a number of the game’s launch issues have already been addressed by the team in the recent patch notes. Alongside this, many fans have been delighted at the fact Baldur’s Gate 3 has been released DRM-free. These are all positive signs ahead of the release of Baldur’s Gate 3 for the PlayStation 5 next month.
