The AyaNeo Slide has been announced by the hardware manufacturer with a floating screen and a full keyboard reminiscent of pre-iPhone era smartphones. It’s set to feature the AMD Ryzen 7840U CPU with a 6-inch IPS 1080p display. It can currently be backed at Indiegogo, where the device has already smashed its funding goal by 1538%. It’s expected to begin shipping in mid-December.
With a starting early-bird price of $699, and $899 for anyone who misses out during the crowdfunding period, the AyaNeo Slide is operating within the same spaces as the Lenovo Legion Go, Steam Deck OLED, and the ASUS ROG Ally. Time will tell whether or not it can be considered one of the best handheld games consoles, and we’ll give you our verdict after our hands-on testing.
This new device is slated to include hall-effect sticks with RGB, a 46.2Wh battery, and a 28W three copper tube cooling system, so it should have enough under the hood to power some pretty demanding titles. The company has provided the full specifications of what’s going to be inside the units if you want to take a deeper dive.
A proof of concept video shows what the AyaNeo Slide could look like in action. However, it’s worth stating that the the system is purely in the conceptual phase right now and has yet to be effectively prototyped according to the ongoing crowdfunding campaign. That means we could see a device that’s different from what’s pictured.
It’s certainly a novel idea to think back to a time where handheld PCs had full ergonomic keyboards built into them, and something that isn’t seen nowadays in favor of a capacitive multi-touchscreen. Similar to the likes of the PSP Go, the AyaNeo Slide’s display will float up from the body and provide an elevated angle to game on, allowing access to the keyboard underneath. This could make web browsing and typing far faster than we typically see if it’s designed well.
