The Assassin’s Creed Black Flag remake hasn’t been announced by Ubisoft, but it is one of the worst-kept secrets in the video game industry. It was previously rumored to be released in March, but it is now reportedly delayed until Fiscal Year 2027. While this delay means it could release anytime between April 2026 and March 2027, Insider Gaming owner Tom Henderson claims it is scheduled to be revealed in mid-April and released “a few months” later.
Henderson’s comments came during Episode 51 of Insider Gaming Weekly on YouTube. After discussing several titles canceled and delayed by Ubisoft, Henderson said the Black Flag remake is “scheduled to be revealed” in mid-April, while acknowledging that there is a possibility “that could change.”
As for its launch, Henderson added, “It’s scheduled to release a few months later, I believe.” Taking Henderson’s wording literally, this could suggest a July release. However, it is more likely to be interpreted as a summer release window, meaning anytime from June to the end of August.
While revealing that the Black Flag remake would be skipping State of Play, reliable insider Shinobi602 also posted on ResetEra that the game’s reveal and release are “not too far off.” This further lends credence to the belief that the delay from March isn’t massive, and that we will see Black Flag release this year, especially with Ubisoft wanting Assassin’s Creed to become an “annual billionaire brand,” seemingly suggesting a new release every year.
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag remake leaks and rumors
While Ubisoft hasn’t announce the remake, there have been leaks. One of these includes an 18+ age rating from PEGI, the age certification board for video games across Europe. This leak revealed that the title is called Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced.
Bigger leaks come from Jeux Vidéo Magazine, a French YouTuber who has previously provided accurate leaks for the series. According to the YouTuber, the Black Flag remake removes the original game’s first-person modern-day storyline in favor of additional content featuring the main protagonist Edward Kenway during the Golden Age of Piracy between 1715 and 1722.
The YouTuber also claimed that the gameplay shifts “closer to the RPG style of newer AC games,” referring to Origins, Odyssey, Valhalla, and Shadows. The leaker specifically mentioned inventory systems, as well as loot and gear statistics.
Finally, the leaker claimed that the open world is not larger, but its islands are filled with more activities and side content. The graphics have also reportedly received a major overhaul, with Ubisoft using the Anvil engine also used for Shadows, which was specifically built by Ubisoft for developing games exclusively on current-generation hardware, meaning PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
The original Black Flag launched in 2013 for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. It is widely known as the pirate installment that introduced naval combat to the series. Although it was the sixth Assassin’s Creed game released, its story is tenth in the series’ chronological timeline.
Beyond the remake, there are other Assassin’s Creed titles yet to be released. These include Assassin’s Creed Hexe, the next mainline installment, believed to take place during the witch trials in Germany during the 1600s.
There is also Assassin’s Creed Invictus, a Fall Guys–style multiplayer game that has reportedly left Ubisoft developers “disgusted.”
