With an announcement possible at Apple’s WWDC, the price of the rumoured VR headset already has fans up in arms.

The rumour mill has prices slated between $1,500 – $3,000, which is far more expensive than many are willing to spend on a VR headset. That said, there’s going to be no shortage of technical advancements brought by Apple’s entry into VR, so it very well could be worth it.

Regardless, the price ranges theorised aren’t entirely enticing, and it seems like it could very much launch similar to the Meta Quest Pro – technically fantastic, realistically unaffordable.

Like Meta’s headset, it’s possible that the headset is geared for a release for professionals, enthusiasts, and those that can afford it. More a proof of concept than a product ready for consumers.

So – Apple fans have begun ripping into the potential cost of the headset.

This Reddit thread collects a few of the reactions to the price: “Expensive, incredibly powerful but no games, obsolete in one years when the next model comes out”, a brutally honest fan comments.

Others have joked that the next model will be even worse, though a slight design shift-around will have fans foaming at the mouth.

Perhaps the best, is this reaction to the headset:

“I’m expecting Apple to “invent” a bunch of stuff that already exists, but give them WordWord names.

  • Passthrough will be ThroughVision.
  • Hand tracking will be FingerView.
  • The price will be VeryHigh”

Forbes have talked about Apple’s “big, breakout moment” after its introduction to VR, though the article reports on the headset’s apparent battery pack and $3,000 price-tag holding it back. If Apple are really to take the Augmented Reality world by storm – the price of their first headset has to sit well with consumers.
