The Apex Legends Arsenal update is apparently set to include several changes to the FPS battle royale’s ranked mode as part of Season 17. The most significant updates that are being made include the new matchmaking through a hidden Matchmaking Rating, and a “new Scoring system that emphasizes winning the Battle Royale.”
With the Apex Legends Season 17 release date now closer than ever, players are already looking forward to enjoying these revamped ranked matches. This is mainly because many within the community had often felt jaded with its stale competitive offerings from previous seasons so this should present a nice change that players will surely enjoy.
Apex Legends Arsenal update ranked mode changes
According to EA, their two “main goals” for Ranked mode with the Arsenal update is to improve the matchmaking experience to “enable consistently competitive matches” and to adjust “scoring to further focus on playing the Battle Royale and playing as a team.” Although it’s still too early to judge, it seems that the improvements being introduced may just be enough to satisfy the player base.
One of the key changes that’s arriving with Season 17 is the new matchmaking system “based on a player’s hidden Matchmaking Rating (MMR).” The developers have stated that the previous method of creating lobbies based on Ranked Points (RP) “had little to no correlation at the lower tiers.” “This meant RP was not a true representation of a player’s skill and ranked matchmaking had to be revised,” they continued.
As mentioned before, the Apex Legends Arsenal update is also bringing in a new Scoring system that’s replacing Ranked Points with Ladder Points instead. Battle royale victories are still the most important factor for this new system, however, bonuses will also have a significant effect on your standing. The amount of kills you get in a lobby, how well you perform in an unfavorable match, and whether or not “your MMR greatly outperforms your Ladder Points,” are all important elements in Season 17.
There are a handful of other enhancements that are being included with the upcoming patch, which you’ll be able to read about through EA’s official blog post. Once you’re done skimming through it, check out our Apex Legends codes piece for a few in-game freebies.
