Alien Syndrome is described as a fast-paced action-RPG set in an imaginative sci-fi universe. The game is in development at Totally Games and will be launched simultaneously for the PSP and Wii in summer 2007.

The game will offer players two fast-paced game modes: an engaging single-player campaign, plus the replay value provided by co-op multiplayer where up to four people can join in.

If the name is ringing a bell, that’s because SEGA released Alien Syndrome back in 1987 for the arcade (later to receive ports to numerous home systems) as a run and gun shooter. This time around SEGA is offering a more in-depth RPG element, whilst still offering the easy to pick up and play action gameplay.

Players will be put in control of the Earth Command Trooper Aileen Harding, who must battle through a variety of environments including infested spaceships and bizarre alien planets. Before players begin their quest a wide variety of character specialities and skills can be chosen, with more abilities and stat increases made available as areas of the game are completed.

The Wii version will utilise the Wii Remote, enabling players to use a full range of motion when slashing through enemies, fighting off bosses, or running and gunning through hallways. There will also be several game mechanics that rely on the remote, such as the ability to craft new items and hack into computer systems.

Alien Syndrome for the PSP will feature Wi-Fi support enabling up to four players to take part in co-op playe in various multiplayer modes.

No firm release date has been set by SEGA, but we can look forward to Alien Syndrome in summer 2007.
