Spyro Reignited Trilogy has gotten off to a pretty strong start as far as UK retail is concerned, but one thing that hasn't gone down well with punters is the lack of subtitles in the retro-tastic platforming bundle.

Specifically, Spyro Reignited Trilogy does not feature subtitles in story cutscenes despite including them for when you are having a natter with NPCs during Spyro 2: Ripto's Revenge and Spyro: Year of the Dragon.

Activision was contacted by GamePitt, the site that clocked the omission of subtitles in the first place, with the publishing giant issuing the following statement on the matter.

'When Toys For Bob set out to make an awesome game collection, there were certain decisions that needed to be made throughout the process. The team remained committed to keep the integrity and legacy of Spyro that fans remembered intact. The game was built from the ground up using a new engine for the team (Unreal 4), and was localized in languages that had not previously been attempted by the studio. While there’s no industry standard for subtitles, the studio and Activision care about the fans’ experience especially with respect to accessibility for people with different abilities, and will evaluate going forward.'

The comments seem to imply that Activision is looking at ways of patching in the missing subtitles in the future, although nothing has been confirmed at this point. Still, it doesn't help those who rely on subtitles and are not able to enjoy the game right now due to their omission.

Spyro Reignited Trilogy is out now for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
