It’s being reported that a new Ghost Recon game is in the works at Ubisoft.

Those reports come from Kotaku, who claim the next outing in the Tom Clancy series is codenamed OVER. The game has, it’s alleged, been in development for over a year at the publisher’s Paris studio. While further details are scant, it claims that the new game could launch as early as fiscal year 2023.

Under the project OVER moniker, the game existence was reportedly (as per Eurogamer) revealed as a title in a large Nvidia Now leak last September. That same leak revealed the existence of a PC port of then-PlayStation exclusive God of War. Although Nvidia denied the listing at the time, a God of War PC port would be announced just one month later. That game then subsequently arrived (to huge success, we might add) at the start of this year.

The rumour comes just hours removed from Ubisoft confirming it was bringing active development of previous title, Ghost Recon Breakpoint, to a close. It’s final few months were mired in some controversary, in part due to Ubisoft’s Quartz NFT scheme back in December. The Ghost Recon name was also attached to a free-to-play offering, the 100 player Ghost Recon Frontline announced last October. That also hit a stumbling block when a planned closed beta was delayed until earlier this year.

Could a new mainline Ghost Recon game turn the series’ fortunes around? We’ll have to wait and see but we’ll let you know if an official confirmation comes from Ubisoft.
