Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime has confirmed that Nintendo will be recommending children under seven don’t use the Nintendo 3DS – standard protocol for 3D imagery.

Speaking to Kotaku at E3 last week, Fils-Aime said: “We will recommend that very young children not look at 3D images. That’s because, [in] young children, the muscles for the eyes are not fully formed… This is the same messaging that the industry is putting out with 3D movies, so it is a standard protocol.”

The age at which 3D gaming and other 3D entertainment becomes safe is around seven, confirmed Fils-Aime.

The handheld does, however, have the ability to turn off 3D visuals entirely, meaning titles including the upcoming nintendogs + cats will be safe for youngsters to play.
