Mafia 3 might appear similar to GTA 5, but Take Two chairman and CEO Strauss Zelnick says there is no tech sharing in play and the game “stands alone”.

“We’re blessed that we have two distinct labels at this company and multiplicity of studios with a lot of talent,” explained Zelnick in an investor Q&A last night. “We do not have a tech sharing environment. A very congenial company, but we don’t think that’s the best way to get the best out of our development folks. It’s not the way it works around here.

“Mafia III is a completely different experience. I wouldn’t compare it to anything else out there. The reveal was great, but it stands alone.”

Zelnick also made it pretty clear that the publisher will never compare Mafia 3 to GTA.

“And no, we don’t use any other game in the same sentence as Grand Theft Auto. It is the industry’s standard bearer. It’s not up for comparison.,” he concluded.
