Wild Hearts gives players a tidy arsenal of weapons to cleave and batter through a succession of ever-more powerful and colossal Kemono. Each is unique, with a defined set of attacks and combos that offer a different way to approach each fight. But, how do you unlock all weapons in Wild Hearts?

As you start your adventure in Wild Hearts, you only have access to the Karakuri Katana, though, capping your ability to take on Kemono using different playstyles. Don’t worry, though, as new weapons come on thick and fast from here onward. Developer Omega Force even has plans for a few more in the no too distant future.

In this guide, we’ll outline what’s needed to unlock all the weapons in Wild Hearts and how to craft them so that you can trial and test them to settle on one or two to accompany your playthrough.

How to Unlock Weapons

Wild Hearts - How to Unlock Weapons

After defeating your first Kemono, the Ragetail, and unlocking the Field Forge at your camps, the list of available weapons expands to include the Nodachi, Bow, Maul, and Bladed Wagasa. You’ll note that at this point in the game, there are three mystery weapons in the forging menu, concealed behind question marks.

The Field Forge is Wild Hearts’ take on the classic blacksmith, unlocked after helping out Natsune at the Giant Tree Trunk Camp during the game’s opening hours. You can construct a Field Forge at most camps (elemental energy stats allowing) and forge any of these five starter weapons from here onwards.

Though the story suggests otherwise, Natsune doesn’t need to be stationed at a Forge for you to craft or upgrade weapons. It’s worth forging at least one of each and then taking them for a test drive on a low-level Kemono like the Ragetail. Or alternatively, trying them out on a training dummy. There’s one just outside the trunk at the Giant Tree Trunk Camp in Harugasumi Way.

As for the last three weapons, you’ll need to complete Chapter 1 Azuma, Land of the East, to unlock these. The quest involves battling a fair few Kemono, visiting Minato, then Natsukodachi Isle, culminating in a fight against the Earthshaker. Defeating the beast and initiating Chapter 2 Ancient Technology unlocks the Claw Blade, Hand Cannon, and Karakuri Staff at Field Forges.

Wild Hearts - How to Unlock Weapons

Below is a list of all eight weapons available in Wild Hearts in the order you’ll unlock them.

  • Karakuri Katana
  • Nodachi
  • Bow
  • Maul
  • Bladed Wagasa
  • Claw Blade
  • Hand Cannon
  • Karakuri Staff

There’s no uncontested best weapon in Wild Hearts. All of them are well-equipped to take down every Kemono the game throws at you. It’s more a question of finding a weapon that suits your style or using one that capitalizes on the weaknesses of the Kemono you’re currently fighting to make the task a bit easier.
