In baseball, the Mercy Rule is a rule that ends a game between two teams due to how large a lead is – or how insurmountable it is – for one of the two competitors. This isn’t a rule that’s active in the MLB, for example.

That said, the Mercy Rule was used during the World Baseball Classic, and is used elsewhere in other leagues. In the World Baseball Classic, the Mercy Rule was in effect when a team had a 15+ run lead after five innings of play, or a 10+ run lead after seven innings of play.

Essentially the Mercy Rule is in place so that losing teams don’t have to suffer the consequences of the onslaught taking place for as long as they have to. The Mercy Rule grants teams a chance to keep a game close and competitive, while also ending it if it’s getting out of hand.

The Mercy Rule applies in Diamond Dynasty’s Ranked mode, whether you’re playing 1v1, 2v2, or 3v3. Having the Mercy Rule in place for Ranked is helpful because who really wants to have play through a 9 inning game when they’re getting pummeled 10-0 in the third.

In MLB The Show 23, the Mercy Rule will kick in immediately when you reach the 10+ run difference marker. Yes, The Show doesn’t want its fans have to suffer through a tough loss. But the Mercy Rule is also in place to prevent the winning teams from leveling up or boosting too quickly.
