Did you know that the Minecraft world contains a large number of undead creatures roaming around in the night? And did you find it illogical to use a sword or axe to slice through the skeleton’s bones, or to pierce the zombie’s flesh and they actually die? Normally, you will need to use any heavy weapon to deal smite damage to them.

Today, we are going to go through a special weapon enchantment to see what Smite does in Minecraft!

What is Smite and what does it do in Minecraft

Smite is one of the oldest enchantments in Minecraft that was added in Minecraft 1.0. The Smite enchantment enables you to deal more damage to undead mobs in Minecraft.

You can apply Smite to a sword or axe in Minecraft. And the maximum level of Smite you can achieve in survival mode is Smite V.

Each level of Smite will add 2.5 damage to your weapon, and up to 12.5 damage (or 6.25 heart) at the max level. This means you can one-shot a normal zombie with a diamond sword or a stone axe with Smite V.

Here’s the list of the under mobs in Minecraft: zombies, zombie villagers, baby zombies, zombie horses, husks, strays, drowned, skeletons, wither skeletons, skeleton horses, withers, zombified piglins, phantoms, and zoglins.

Since Smite belongs to the damage category enchantment, you can add smite with other damage enchantments like sharpness, cleaving, or bane of arthropods.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s better Smite or Sharpness?

Smite adds 2.5 damage per level and Sharpness only adds 1.25 damage per level. At first, Smite may outperform Sharpness. But that’s not the case! Smite only increases damage dealt to undead mobs, while Sharpness increases the overall melee damage. So when fighting with non-undead mobs, sharpness is way better!

Do Sharpness and Smite stack?

Sharpness and Smite do actually stack. But only if you use Minecraft commands to give the weapon both enchantments because you can’t add these two enchantments together. As result, hitting an undead mob with a Sharpness V and Smite V will deal extra 18.75 damage.

Is Smite good against the wither?

Smite is really good against the Wither because it’s an undead mob. With a nether axe and Smite V, you can deal 22.5 damage per hit. So you only need to swing your axe 14 times to defeat the Wither in Java Edition or easy mode on Bedrock Edition. For Normal and Hard difficulty, you need to hit the Wither 20 and 27 times respectively.
