Can you change the difficulty in Stellar Blade?

  • There are two difficulty options in Stellar Blade.
  • There are no other difficulty settings to change, other than accessibility options.

The difficulty of Stellar Blade is being called into question by those who have played the demo. While the developers have added difficulty options, it’s always good to familiarise yourself with what’s available in this new action game. Stellar Blade offers fluid and weighty combat and is set in a post-apocalyptic sci-fi world. Here’s what we know about the difficulty options in Stellar Blade.

Stellar Blade all difficulty options

We know that Stellar Blade will have two difficulty options to choose from. This information was shared under an FAQ on the game’s PSN listing. At the moment, since this isn’t featured in the demo, we don’t know what these difficulty options will be. We can assume the demo difficulty is probably set to normal, and whether or not the game will have normal and hard mode, or normal and easy mode, remains to be seen. As per the information from Sony, the difficulty is explained as such:

“There are two difficulty settings to choose from. Combat requires deliberate attacks, defence, and evasion. It’s essential to learn enemy attack patterns and counter with precision, so expect a challenge, especially in the game’s many boss fights”.

From playing the demo, we’ve gotten a taste of the parry system and how combat flows in the early games, and you must learn to read the movements and attack patterns of your enemies. Thanks to the inclusion of difficulty options, the game is more accessible to those who perhaps don’t want a huge challenge from the combat.

Stellar Blade accessibility options

Based on the options available in the demo, you have plenty of freedom with a lot of accessibility options in Stellar Blade. From turning off hints and tutorials to customising the length of EVE’s ponytail. There is even an option to autoloot things, to save you from holding R2 to gather dropped items. Here is the list of accessibility options from the demo version of Stellar Blade:

Motion Sickness

  • Always display the centre point
  • Motion Blur
  • Camera Shake
  • Camera auto-rotation

Sound

  • Subtitles
  • Display speaker name

  • Flip camera vertically
  • Flip camera horizontally
  • Camera auto rotation
  • Adaptive triggers

Quick-time events are the bane of enjoyable gaming, so it’s good to see Stellar Blade has an option to let them auto-complete instead of needing your input. Whether or not there are more options available in the full release remains to be seen.
