Starfield max level

  • Technically, there is no limit to how high you can level up in Starfield
  • The highest level the game will process is Level 9999
  • You only need to reach Level 328 to unlock all skills

Levelling up is key to progression in Starfield. With every level you gain, you’re able to invest some skill points into the skills that matter to you, whether that means more damage in combat, being able to pilot more effective ships or more.

But what’s the highest level you can get up to in Starfield? We’ll take you through what you need to know about the Starfield levelling system, if there is a max level cap in the game, and what exactly that level is.

Is there a maximum level cap in Starfield?

Right now, there is no level cap at all in Starfield and no highest level you can reach. This means you can keep earning XP and grinding up levels infinitely, with the only possible limitation being the highest number for level that the game can actually process – 9999. This was confirmed just prior to Gamescom by Bethesda Game Studios’ head of publishing Pete Hines. It’s since been reaffirmed by dataminers who have scoured the sci -fi RPG on PC and console.

Eventually, you can theoretically unlock every single Starfield skill on your skill trees in the game. There is a trade-off for this though: you can’t respec your character. Choose the wrong thing to level up, and your only ways around the problem are to restart a new game, or keep levelling until you can unlock whatever it is you want to go for instead.

What is the maximum useful level in Starfield?

An arguable sensible max level to aim for though would probably be level 328 – assuming you’re really intent on the grind it’ll take to reach this monumental milestone. We suggest 328 for a simple reason: it’s the total number of skill points in the game. With 82 skills spread across five trees, reaching 328 would allow you to expend all possible skill points to unlock everything. Beyond here, there really isn’t much else to earn from higher levels.

Levelling up to this recommended maximum will still take a long, long while, even if you’re using the fastest XP farming methods. Expect a grind beyond the 40-50 hours of the main Starfield story, or be prepared to use console commands to reach this informal Starfield level cap.

Can you reach max level with console commands?

If you still want to try and go above and beyond, console commands open an additional option up to you. This will obviously undermine your game experience a bit, but if you’re looking to just mess around and have some fun, then it can make for an interesting experience. Use the following command if you want to increase your level:

  • player.setlevel #

Where ‘#’ represents the level number you want, i.e. level 9999. Using this command, you can at least bypass the grind, if your only interest is in playing around with your god-like powers.
