While playing through Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl, it became obvious to us that it’s a dark game and gets even darker when you explore caves, building interiors, and other similar places. You do have access to a flashlight, but the game doesn’t do a good job of explaining how to access it. That led many players to trudge through darkness where it’s easier for invisible enemies to pounce on you. Fortunately, it’s simpler than it seems and we’ll explain how to use the flashlight in Stalker 2.
How to get and use the flashlight in Stalker 2

You will have access to the flashlight from the very start of the game – after entering the first compound in fact. The game doesn’t inform you on how to use it, however, and there’s no tutorial explaining it. You can activate the flashlight by opening the weapon radial menu and toggling it on. Here’s which keybinds to use to do it:
- On PC: Hold Tab to open the radial menu, then press E to turn the flashlight On or Off.
- On Xbox: Hold LB to open the radial menu, then press Right on the D-pad to turn the flashlight On or Off.
If you’re using the PS5 controller to play the game (on PC for example), you can hold L1 to open the radial menu, then press Right on the D-pad to toggle the flashlight.
With that, you will be able to use the flashlight whenever you need to light up a location. That will be more often than you might think – as we said, Stalker 2 can be very dark. We had to push the brightness in our graphics settings to make sense of the surroundings. You’ll be happy to hear that, unlike some other resources in the game, the flashlight doesn’t require maintenance. You don’t need to collect batteries or charge up the flashlight. So that’s at least one less headache to think about. Therefore, feel free to turn it on and illuminate any place you explore in Stalker 2.
