As soon as you reach the Slag Heap stalker camp in the Garbage region, you have the opportunity to pick up a souped up AKM-74S assault rifle known as the Drowned with little to no effort. It’s a feisty early game gun that should carry you through the next few missions. While not one of the best early game weapons in Stalker 2, it’s well-worth picking up if you’re running a standard AKM-74S or Viper-5. In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to get the Drowned in Stalker 2.

How to find the Drowned

When you’re first instructed to go to Slag Heap to talk to Diode during The Price Goes Up main mission, approach the camp from the south. Just before the outer perimeter wall, you’ll cross over a concrete bridge where an NPC named Boo will beckon you over, up in arms about the loss of his gun in the toxic trench below. He can’t seem to get it himself so asks you to help him out.

Talk to Boo and agree to fish it out for him. Head down to the water below and you’ll find the Drowned weapon resting on a concrete block near a red barrel and a wooden palette. Pick it up to add it to your inventory. Instead of handing it back to Boo, you can keep the gun. It is heavily degraded to the point of being almost unusable, so make sure to visit the Technician Diode in the Slag Heap nearby to get it repaired.

Other than disappointing Boo, there’s no lasting consequences to keeping the gun for yourself, other than the morally ambiguous heft of snatching away a man’s prized firearm. But, then again, the Zone is a cut throat place, where kindness rarely gets you anywhere. From we’ve seen so far, this is your only opportunity to get the Drowned and it doesn’t appear again at any point in the Stalker 2.

The Drowned features a 30 bullet magazine that takes 5.45×39 caliber ammunition. It boasts an excellent rate of fire and decent accuracy, but pretty poor damage and penetration stats compared to other weapons you can pick up at this point.
