Trying to figure out how to move the scuffed rock in Baldur’s Gate 3? On the face of it, that sounds like a silly question, but Larian Studio’s latest entry into the Dungeons and Dragons video game series is full of little puzzles like this. Here, we’ll explain how to move the scuffed rock in BG3 and get to the treasure beneath it.

How to move the scuffed rock in Act 1

To move the scuffed rock, you need a character with a high Strength score to pass a Strength check. This could be your own character if you’ve got high Strength stats and abilities or a Strength-oriented class. A companion with high Strength will work just as well though. For example, the fighter Lae’Zel, who you met on the Nautiloid ship, has enough Strength to move the scuffed rock. Though Shadowheart is no slouch either and should be able to move the rock for you as well.

Once you’ve got a character who’s strong enough, simply take control of them. Head over to the scuffed rock and hover over it with your mouse. Then click and drag to pull the rock away.

Scuffed rock treasure

Of course, it wouldn’t be much worth all of this effort if you didn’t get something out of it. Underneath the rock, you’ll find an Ornate Chest. Inside this chest you’ll find:

• Agate
• Harper’s Map
• Harper’s Notebook
• Potion of Speed (sometimes multiple)
• Random amount of gold (usually 12-17 pieces)
• Ruby

While this might not be a vast fortune, it’s a tidy little sum for this early in the game, considering how easy it is to get. Of course, the map and notebook will come in handy later too.

Where to find the scuffed rock

The scuffed rock is in a south-westerly direction from the crashed Nautiloid ship, and is somewhat hidden. To find it, head east on the map from the Overgrown Ruins or southwest from the Roadside Cliffs. You’ll come across a fully circular section of the road. Head southwest from this ring road until you reach the coast. The scuffed rock can be found down just by the cliffs. It’s a lighter grey colour compared to the surrounding tan-coloured geology, so it’s not too easy to miss.
